Nikki Haley says she will not partake in the last two Republican debates scheduled in New Hampshire unless former President Donald Trump takes the stage as well.
That would leave Ron DeSantis as the only candidate participating in the debates, the first hosted by WMUR and ABC News at Saint Anselm College on Thursday and the second hosted by CNN at New England College on Sunday.
In a statement Tuesday morning, Haley said: “We’ve had five great debates in this campaign. Unfortunately, Donald Trump has ducked all of them. He has nowhere left to hide. The next debate I do will either be with Donald Trump or with Joe Biden. I look forward to it.”
The Washington Post reported that ABC and WMUR “have officially given Donald Trump and Nikki Haley’s campaigns a deadline of 5:00 pm Eastern time today to commit” to their planned Thursday debate, adding that the networks will “update” their plans accordingly.
On X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, DeSantis said he wouldn’t “snub” New Hampshire voters, and plans to honor his commitments.
“I look forward to debating two empty podiums in the Granite State this week,” he said.
